Jonathan Haggerty is putting in the work to prepare for his upcoming world championship opportunity.

At ONE Fight Night 9 on Prime Video, Haggerty has a chance to further his legacy by earning a Muay Thai world title in his second division. The former ONE flyweight Muay Thai king is moving up to bantamweight and looking to pull off an upset against Nong-O Hama.

‘The General’ recently posted an Instagram video of him running and practicing kicks, with the caption saying:

“Getting it done. Saturday morning hill sprints ✅ @onechampionship”

Haggerty has arguably the toughest test of his career on April 21. Since making his ONE debut in April 2018, Nong-O has established a perfect promotional record of 10-0. The Thai superstar has won eight world championship fights under the ONE banner, including his latest statement victory against Alaverdi Ramazanov in January.

ONE Fight Night 9 can be seen live and for free by North American Prime Video subscribers.

Jonathan Haggerty looks back at his game plan for Rodtang Jitmuangnon

Jonathan Haggerty holds a promotional record of 5-2. After securing the ONE flyweight Muay Thai world championship, Haggerty suffered back-to-back losses against Rodtang Jitmuangnon in August 2019 and January 2020. More than three years later, ‘The General’ revealed what went wrong in an interview with Heatrick Muay Thai Performance:

“Before the fight, I’m always switched on 100 percent. But you know, there’s little things when I was in the last fight with Rodtang, I was scoring and scoring, and I was grabbing him. I just wanted to score and clinch, but when I was in there, I was thinking to myself, ‘People don’t want to see this. Why are you grabbing him? Don’t grab him, don’t look scared. Don’t care about that. Don’t care about what people think.'”

Haggerty fought in ONE Championship for the first time in January 2019, defeating Joseph Lasiri by unanimous decision. Four months later, the English-born fighter took out Sam-A Gaiyanghadao to become the ONE flyweight Muay Thai world champion.

After losing to Rodtang twice, Haggerty bounced back with two unanimous decision wins against Taiki Naito and Mongkolpetch Petchyindee. ‘The General’ last fought in November 2022, securing his third consecutive win by defeating Vladimir Kuzmin.
