Jorge Masvidal has hinted that he may be next in line for a title shot against Leon Edwards, despite Colby Covington's recent claim to the title shot.

Following the recently concluded UFC 286 main event, which saw Edwards defeat Kamaru Usman via decision, Dana White hinted that Covington could be next in line for the title shot.

However, 'Gamebred', who appeared in a recent interview with MMA Junkie, revealed that he had some insider information suggesting that he would be next to face Edwards for the welterweight belt.

The 38-year-old fighter said:

"I'm fighting Gilbert, then I'm fighting Leon, and it's just... I'm telling you that's gonna play out. I just got some, you know, insider information."

Jorge Masvidal's recent losing streak has raised doubts about his eligibility for a title shot against Leon Edwards. The Miami-based fighter has not stepped into the octagon since his defeat at the hands of Colby Covington at UFC 272.

'Gamebred's current fight record stands at 35 wins and sixteen losses, with his last three fights ending in losses. Covington, who is also vying for a title shot against Edwards, defeated Masvidal in their last fight.

Covington's own record is 17 wins and three losses, with his last defeat coming at the hands of then-reigning champ Kamaru Usman. Despite this, Covington remains a strong contender for the title shot compared to Masvidal. However, a victory over Burns could potentially lead to a high-profile rematch with Edwards and a shot at the welterweight championship.

The developments have left fans wondering who will ultimately earn the coveted title shot against Edwards. While both fighters have their strengths and weaknesses, Masvidal's losing streak could hinder his chances of securing the title shot.

For now, MMA fans can only wait and speculate about the next move in this highly competitive sport.

Jorge Masvidal opens up about his feud against Colby Covington

Former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping recently discussed Jorge Masvidal's future in the sport on his podcast.

The former middleweight champion stated that a victory over Gilbert Burns could put 'Gamebred' back in contention for a shot at the welterweight championship, currently held by Leon Edwards.

"If he [Masvidal] can beat him [Burns], then all of a sudden he’s right back in contention. Let's remember Leon Edwards is the champ. There is a storyline with Leon Edwards and Jorge Masvidal which goes back to [Masvidal's] Darren Till fight in 2019." [4:42 onwards]

Bisping also noted that Edwards has expressed a desire to fight Masvidal again in order to seek revenge for their backstage brawl at UFC Fight Night 147.

"Leon was talking recently, he wants to fight Masvidal. He wants revenge. He wants to get him back. He assaulted him essentially, he wants to beat him up... Well if he can beat Gilbert Burns, here we go, we never know." [4:58 onwards]
