Fans recently expressed their thoughts on Dustin Poirier's relentless attempts for guillotine choke ahead of his fight at UFC 302. The pay-per-view event is set to take place on June 1 at the Prudential Center In Newark, New Jersey.

Poirier will make his third attempt to win UFC gold when he faces Islam Makhachev for the lightweight championship. All of this occurred as a result of Arman Tsarukyan's decision to turn down the opportunity to face Makhachev following his split decision victory over Charles Oliveira at UFC 300, which eventually led to Poirier, who got the call and agreed to face Makhachev.

Poirier's obsession with guillotine chokes is well known. In a prior interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, he even acknowledged how much he loved the submission technique. 'The Diamond' still favors going for the choke over following the game plan, even after numerous failed attempts.

The former UFC interim lightweight champion recently posted a humorous photo of himself on social media, posing next to a bronze statue of himself trying to choke someone with a guillotine. Captioning the post, he wrote:

''I ain't neva gone stop!!! #gillygoose #PaidInFull #ElDiamante''

Fans soon rushed to the comments section to share their reactions.

Poirier's last octagon outing came against Benoit Saint Danis at UFC 299. Despite repeated efforts to submit Saint Danis with a guillotine choke, he eventually defeated the Frenchman via second-round knockout.

Makhachev, on the other hand, is coming off a first-round knockout victory against Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 294 last year.

Islam Makhachev says Dustin Poirier's tendency of going for guillotine chokes will cost him the match

Islam Makhachev is unquestionably confident. The reigning UFC lightweight champion has detailed the strategies he intends to apply to defeat Dustin Poirier in his upcoming title defense at UFC 302.

In an interview with Yahoo Sports, Makhachev stated that Poirier's bad habit of leaping for guillotine chokes in order to deter wrestlers will cost him the match. Predicting the fight, he said:

"We will start and I will try to take him down. He will try to put me in a guillotine. I will defend the guillotine, I will give him a couple of punches. He will give his back. Then I will finish."
