Kevin Holland secured his second consecutive win when he faced Vicente Luque at UFC 316, which took place on June 7. They kicked off the main card in style, with 'Trailblazer' defeating his opponent in Round 2 with Luque's own signature submisson, a d'arce choke.
Holland has been the most active UFC fighter since 2020, with his clash against 'The Silent Assassin' marking his 21st octagon appearance in the five-year span. Given his incredible level of activity, the welterweight contender was asked following UFC 316 when he next planned on fighting.
The 32-year-old said:
"I don't really want to fight on [Noche UFC], because it's in Texas. Texas needs to fix their marijuana rules, to be honest with you, with the commission. That means I would have to take longer off from smoking, which sucks. I mean, I'd do it, it sucks because it's the summer time too and I like smoking in the summer. But it's hot as f**k in Texas so it's probably not good to smoke in the summer. I could take a little time off."

Kevin Holland talks through his submission win over Vicente Luque
Vicente Luque holds six UFC submission wins with either a d'arce or anaconda choke, and the Brazilian has quietly become synonymous with the submission technique. However, during his UFC 316 clash against Kevin Holland, 'The Silent Assassin' was submitted with his own signature move.
Holland himself is a well-versed Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt under Travis Lutter, and holds five submission wins in the octagon, including three via d'arce choke.
The welterweight contender was interviewed by ESPN MMA backstage following his win, where he detailed his stoppage win over Luque, saying:
"I like to do a good job of using my length and I like to do a good job of getting the head down. A lot of people just like to get on the arteries and like to choke and stuff like that. But I like to do a good job of getting the head down as far as it can. If I put [Daniel Cormier] in this choke, he'll hate it. Anybody that's a little heavier than they used to be, they hate when their neck gets like this."
