UFC lightweight Rafael Fiziev sparked controversy on social media following his recent comments defending Conor McGregor in the sexual assault case involving Nikita Hand. During an appearance on Submission Radio on Tuesday, Fiziev dismissed the allegations against the Irishman, suggesting that the alleged victim could be lying for financial benefit.
In a short clip of the interview shared on X by Home of Fight, Fiziev stated:
"I think when people have a lot of money like him…you just want to spend some night with her but she wants to f*ck your life…I think the lady, she’s just going to report him because she wants something from him. I don’t believe stories like that because people also sometimes want to lie because of money."
Fiziev's comments quickly sparked backlash online, with one fan saying:
"king of cringe strikes again."
Another fan called out 'Ataman,' writing:
"MMA fighter don’t be a piece of sh*t challenge: Impossible"
While there were fans who criticized the Kazakhstani for his stance, some users suggested that his perspective isn't entirely implausible, with one fan writing:
"But what he's saying is highly possible. And I'm not saying Conor is innocent either."
Others wrote:
"How dare he come to the same conclusion as I did"
"Should keep his mouth shut. Bad look."
"Well I hope he tears his acl again"
Conor McGregor plans to appeal the court's verdict
Conor McGregor was found liable by a civil court on Friday for assaulting the victim, Nikita Hand. The Irish star was accused of r*ping Hand in a Dublin hotel room in 2018. However, 'The Notorious' claimed that the incident was consensual.
In an X post, the former UFC double champion wrote:
“People want to hear from me, I needed time. I know I made mistakes. Six years ago, I should have never responded to her outreaches. I should have shut the party down. I should never have stepped out on the woman I love the most in the world.
"That’s all on me. As much as I regret it, everything that happened that night was consensual and all the witnesses present swore to that under oath. I have instructed my legal team to appeal the decision."
McGregor added:
"I can’t go back and I will move forward. I am beyond grateful to my family, friends and supporters all over the world who have stayed by my side. That’s it. No more. Getting back to the gym- the fight game awaits!”
