Luke Rockhold has made his next career move after officially signing for BKFC, and the former UFC middleweight champion has explained what drew him to the bare-knuckle boxing promotion.
Following his temporary retirement from MMA, the 38-year-old returned to combat sports and was granted his release from the UFC as he looks to prolong his time competing. In his final octagon outing, the veteran extended his losing streak to three when he came up short in a memorable clash against Paulo Costa.
While discussing his decision to join BKFC, Rockhold highlighted how impressive their offer was and the benefits he still has despite signing for the fast-growing company.
"It's an offer I couldn't refuse and I'm still a free agent. That's the beauty of life, that's the beauty of where we're at and where we're going to keep it. BKFC, I'm loyal to them, for sure, if we stay in that space but this is a one-term bout agreement... I like what's in front of me and I like the opponent and I like the f***ing stage and it's f***ing new... I think anybody from the early days of fighting was a street fighter. All these new kids are MMA fighters now... They [BKFC] take care of the fighters, man. They take care of people and they give you what you're worth."
Before retiring from the sport, the former Strikeforce standout had been fighting inside cages professionally since 2007 and is a true icon for those in the middleweight division.
