UFC 287: Gilbert Burns v Jorge Masvidal

A UFC middleweight contender reached out to a 'fake' Gilbert Burns before his co-main event at UFC 287.

Derek Brunson trolled fans with a tweet where he texted a fan with the same name as Gilbert Burns then called out 'Durninho' for not responding to texts. Brunson claims he was looking to share some kind words with the Brazilian before his co-main event clash against Jorge Masvidal. He tweeted out saying:

"I sent @GilbertDurinho some kind words before his fight and he never responded smh"

The troll message read:

"HOLA Durinho! I am a HUGE fan of yours! You actually are the reason I started training UFC. I am even growing my hair out now so I can look more like you. Anyway, I just wanted to wish you the best of luck in your fight tomorrow. Don't let Phony Montana intimidate you or make you lose focus. If you can go 5 rounds with Kamzat you can easily defeat Jorge. Just watch out for his flying knee at the beginning of the fight lol."

Derek Brunson took shots at Jorge Masvidal, calling him 'Phony Montana' and also went on to warn Gilbert Burns about the flying knee that Masvidal employed to knock out Ben Askren.

Gilbert Burns accuses Jorge Masvidal of using lotion to make himself slippery in the octagon

Gilbert Burns accused Jorge Masvidal of using lotion during their UFC 287 co-main event fight.

The pair fought in what was a dominant win for Burns, who won via unanimous decision. However, following the fight, the Brazilian made some shocking claims regarding some of the tactics used by Masvidal. A reporter asked him if he believed 'Gamebred' applied something to his skin. He replied:

"One hundred percent. I do believe, I know those old tricks those guys do you know what they do? They wake up on Sunday, and they take the first shower, and they pass a lot of lotion on the body. And the lotion goes, like the skin absorbs the lotion...For sure, he did that too, one hundred percent, I'm telling you...He was so slippery."

Gilbert Burns also went on to state that he has to give it to Masvidal for being so inventive. However, he also believes that if the Miami native was not slippery, he could have submitted him.
