Miesha Tate came up short in her bout against Bia Mesquita at the recent UFC Fight Pass Invitational 3 event held at the Apex Facility in Nevada. The UFC Fight Pass event was a submission-only Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) event featuring some of the best grapplers in the sport.

While Tate is a former Strikeforce and UFC champion, facing Mesquita in a submission-based grappling bout was no easy task. Mesquita is a 31-year-old IBJJF Hall of Famer and is recognized widely for holding the most world championships at the black belt level (24). Her run of success includes championships in some of the biggest competitions like the ADCC and IBJJF.

Mesquita won the bout via an overtime round submission against Miesha Tate. She employed the use of an armbar that forced 'Cupcake' to tap out, hence getting her hand raised and taking home a $25,000 prize.

Miesha Tate is currently on a two-fight losing streak as a UFC bantamweight contender. Her last two fights against Lauren Murphy and Ketlan Vieira both ended with unanimous decision wins for her opponents. She currently occupies the No.10-rank in the women's bantamweight rankings.

Holly Holm is open to a rematch against Miesha Tate, asks "why wouldn't I wanna go avenge a loss"

Holly Holm came up short against Miesha Tate back in 2016 at UFC 196, losing her bantamweight title to 'Cupcake' as a result. Tate got the better of Holm in the fifth round of the bout, winning the title off her opponent via submission.

However, it seems 'The Preacher's Daughter' is interested in a rematch with the 36-year-old and sees it as a shot at redemption. Speaking at the recent UFC 281 media day, Holm was asked for her thoughts on a possible rematch against Tate. She stated:

"I don't know if she's [Miesha Tate] interested. I am, because why wouldn't I want to go avenge a loss, you know? I want to rematch everybody I've lost to. I want the victory... Who knows what's going to be next. I know she's at 125 [pounds] and might want to stay there."

While Tate made her flyweight debut against Lauren Murphy earlier this year in July, it is not out of the realm of possibility for Tate to move back up to bantamweight considering how thoroughly outclassed she was by Murphy.
