Mike Tyson has made no secret of his pick for David Benavidez vs. Caleb Plant that takes place this Saturday.

'Iron Mike' has previously hosted Benavidez on his podcast and even gave him a new moniker, “The Mexican Monster”. David Benavidez (26-0-0) will look to solidify himself as the mandatory challenger when he faces Caleb Plant (22-1-0) for a shot at Canelo Alvarez’s WBC super-middleweight title.

When asked about his prediction for the fight, Tyson made it known that he was picking Benavidez to win (via BoxingScene):

“Benavidez could beat everybody. My money is with Benavidez until he gets beat. And then if he gets beat, I'm still with him, his attitude. He was a little heavy fat kid [growing up], and stuff like that, and he wanted to prove himself to the world. The greatest fighters in the world are the most insecure fighters. It doesn't seem that way, but it is.”

When asked about a potential David Benavidez vs. Canelo Alvarez matchup, he added:

“F**k, I think he beats everybody he gets in the ring with. So I don't have to say anybody's name or anything,”

David Benavidez vs. Caleb Plant takes place on April 25 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas as part of a Showtime pay-per-view.

Gervonta Davis and Mike Tyson engage in shocking verbal spar

Mike Tyson has usually been complimentary of Gervonta Davis, even saying that the young fighter can be a ‘legend’ if he keeps on fighting.

Tyson, however, didn’t have anything positive to say about ‘Tank’, in a recent interview with TalkSport. Tyson said this about the similarities between him and Davis:

“I don’t know. Maybe just getting in trouble with the law. Other than that, no.”

When Mike Tyson was convicted in 1992 for the rape of Desiree Washington and faced six years of imprisonment as a result, the former heavyweight champion served only three years on account of good behavior and proceeded to continue his boxing career thereafter.

Davis responded on social media to ‘Iron Mike’s comments quoting the former undisputed heavyweight’s comments:

“I agree. I have more skills.”

Davis has had constant run-ins with the law recently and is currently awaiting sentencing for a hit-and-run case that dates back to November 2020.

Gervonta Davis will face Ryan Garcia in a fight headlining a Showtime pay-per-view card at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on April 22.
