Michael Gerard Tyson, who also goes by his moniker ‘Iron Mike,’ is a former heavyweight champion from America considered to be one of the greatest to ever step into the Squared Circle. Tyson was known for his aggressive boxing style in and out of the ring and often had controversies before and after the fights. On June 30, 1966, Mike Tyson was born in New York City, United States, to Lorna Smith Tyson and Purcell Tyson, who is identified as his biological father. However, Tyson did not have a normal and easy life growing up. His family lived in Bed-Stuy until they could afford to move to Brownsville when Tyson was around 10 years old.


Mike Tyson’s early life comprised of his neighborhoods and its high rates of crime, where he ended up in juvenile jail multiple times. To be precise, he had around 38 arrests on his name for petty crimes by the time he was 13. Anyway, it was during his tenure in a juvenile jail Tyson was diverted into boxing by Bobby Stewart, who was a former boxer and the detention center counselor back then. Stewart trained Tyson for months before helping him find a manager to take on the sport much further. Later, Tyson’s amateur career kicked off with him winning two Junior Olympics gold medals in 1981 and 1982 consecutively.
