After coming up short in two of his last three fights, 18-year-old teen phenom Johan Ghazali returned to martial arts’ biggest global stage at ONE Fight Night 32 for a clash with the always dangerous Diego Paez.
Round 1: Things get off to a hot start with Ghazali taking the center of the ring. Paez starts off attacking the lead leg of his opponent, looking to slow down the Malaysian-American. Paez gets ‘Jojo’ backed against the ropes and lands a couple of nice shots before Ghazali circles away. Ghazali gets hit with an eye poke near the two-minute mark, but the fight continues uninterrupted.
Paez is showing off his footwork, staying just out of range of Ghazali’s attacks. Paez lands another stiff counter calf kick. They tie up and trade some knees in close. Ghazali indicates he may have caught a knee to the groin, but the round comes to an end before he can potentially protest.
Round 2: Paez is mixing up his strikes and utilizing footwork that appears to have Ghazali frustrated. ‘Jojo’ throws a high kick and tries to punch his way in, but Paez ties up, forcing a separation from the referee. Ghazali scores with a low kick on the break. Paez swings big with a left hook, but eats a counter from Ghazali.

Paez throws a spinning back fist near the ropes before circling away. Ghazali appears to have been poked in the eye once again, bringing a pause to the contest. After a few blinks and a wipe, the fight continues with less than a minute to go. Paez and ‘Jojo’ trade blows in the center of the ring. Ghazali throws a big right hand that partially connects.
