ONE Friday Fights 34 recap: Superlek knocks down Rodtang, captures historic unanimous decision win

Superlek Kiatmoo9 taking on Rodtang Jitmuangnon was the fight that was promised, and their meeting at the hallowed Lumpinee Boxing Stadium more than delivered on the anticipation it built.

In front of a mental Bangkok crowd, Superlek became the first man to knock Rodtang down in ONE Championship and earned the stunning unanimous decision win in their 140-pound Muay Thai super fight at ONE Friday Fights 34.

Although he was bloodied midway through the first round, Superlek bounced back in the second and hunted Rodtang down with reckless abandon. He found the biggest moment of the fight when he blasted Rodtang with an elbow that led to a standing eight-count, a pivotal juncture in the legendary encounter.

Rodtang knew he had to retaliate and aggressively pushed forward against Superlek in the third round. Superlek fought fire with fire and exchanged elbows with Rodtang’s forward pressure.

Rodtang landed clean with a huge left hook, but Superlek had the final answer in the round when he clocked the ONE flyweight Muay Thai world champion with a looping right cross in the final seconds.

Superlek, the reigning ONE flyweight kickboxing world champion, became the first man in ONE Championship history to beat Rodtang in a striking matchup.

Though the match was originally set for Rodtang’s ONE flyweight Muay Thai world title, Superlek didn’t get his hands on the gold after missing weight. Nevertheless, the matchup between these two living legends was a testament to how important the match was. The close finish could even lead to a series of fights between these two Thai megastars.
