Francis Ngannou is always proud to showcase his roots in Cameroon and this came through when he recently wore a jersey to represent his home nation with Vinicius Jr's name emblazoned on the back. This was curious to some considering the soccer star is Brazilian but the recent news surrounding Vinicius Jr. shines a light on that.
Vinicius Jr. conducted a DNA test earlier this month which revealed his roots with the Tikar people who are from Cameroon. Ngannou's photo dump while wearing the jersey was captioned with the PFL super fight champion calling the soccer star brother, saying we're waiting patiently for you at home, and ending things off by saying FIFA World Cup here we come implying he wanted Vinicius to switch teams.

Francis Ngannou and his ties to the world of soccer
Francis Ngannou is no stranger to being friendly with stars of the world's sport as the lineal MMA heavyweight champion has clearly shown connectivity with Cristiano Ronaldo. This recent online interaction with the Real Madrid star fired up many as Vinicius Jr officially had his Cameroon roots confirmed on Nov. 19.
This transpired before Brazil's 1-1 draw against Uraguay in what was a FIFA World Cup qualifier for 2026. The 38-year-old star of multiple combat sports, as mentioned, took to his social media to perhaps encourage a switch for Vinicius Jr in terms of his future in soccer.
While it seems unlikely he will leave Real Madrid to play for the Indomitable Lions, Vinicius Jr did respond to Ngannou's post showing that he appreciated all the love.
'The Predator' has also shown a level of warmth toward fellow Real Madrid player, Kylian Mbappe. Mbappe is French but his father comes from the Cameroon island of Djebale and received a lot of hospitality from Ngannou upon visiting Cameroon. Despite being born and raised in Paris, Mbappe is clearly proud of his Cameroonian ties and this comes across in his friendship with Ngannou.
The Batie native is coming on the heels of an emphatic win over Renan Ferreira in the PFL smart cage. This after Francis Ngannou had a two-fight foray into the world of boxing against generational heavyweight talents Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.
