At ONE Fight Night 10 on Prime Video, set for May 5, ONE middleweight world champion Reinier de Ridder will step inside the circle for the first time since the opening loss of his MMA career.

‘The Dutch Knight’ was knocked out in the opening round at ONE on Prime Video 5 by undefeated Russian Anatoly Malykhin, who became a double champion with his win. Malykhin, who’s also the ONE interim heavyweight world champion, added the ONE light heavyweight world title to his collection after that December match.

After taking some time to reflect on the fight and make adjustments so that it doesn’t happen again, de Ridder is ready to compete once again. Making his debut in the United States at ONE Fight Night 10, the Dutchman will take on Tye Ruotolo in a submission grappling contest.

De Ridder has been known throughout his MMA career for his grappling skills, with 11 of his 16 pro wins coming by way of submission. On May 5, he will have his work cut out for him, though, as he takes on one of the world’s best no gi grapplers in Tye Ruotolo.

In an interview with the South China Morning Post, Reinier de Ridder previewed the upcoming contest between two of the best grapplers on ONE Championship’s roster:

“He’s very fast. He’s very agile and he’s a great grappler. I think it’s going to be a very close matchup, very explosive. I think it’s very important, the one who can conserve his energy for the 10-minute round will come out on top in the end.”

He added a short and to the point prediction:

“I’m going to tap this guy out.”

ONE Fight Night 10 will emanate from the 1stBank Center in Colorado and will be available live and for free to all Prime Video subscribers in North America.

Reinier de Ridder shares he was fine physically after devastating finish at the hands of Anatoly Malykhin

Reinier de Ridder may have suffered a tough knockout loss last time out, but he has revealed that he was physically fine after the contest.

At ONE on Prime Video 5, de Ridder faced ONE interim heavyweight world champion Anatoly Malykhin. With both undefeated titleholders putting their streaks on the line, ‘The Dutch Knight’ appeared to bite off more than he could chew.

After being unable to take the bigger man down, Reinier de Ridder was forced to stand with Malykhin. It was only a matter of time before the Russian found a home for his devastating power.

Taking the Dutchman’s ONE light heavyweight world championship, Malykhin produced another ferocious finish over a competitor, who had dominated his opponents up to this point.

In a recent interview with SCMP MMA, Reinier de Ridder reflected on his loss and how he coped with losing a fight for the very first time:

“It was pretty quick in the back. That’s what I remember again. There’s bits and pieces of the fight itself that I remember."

He added:

"After that I was pretty much ok straight away. I was back to normal pretty quickly. I didn’t really have any complaints as far as headaches and nausea or whatever. As you can hear, I’m still kinda coherent speaking-wise. I think I’m ok but I really want to recover from this so that’s what I’m focused on right now.”
