Sage Northcutt says lightweight in ONE is better for him in retrospect

'Super' Sage Northcutt will finally be returning to the ONE circle later this year on May 5 at ONE Fight Night 10 on Prime Video. The American MMA star will be returning to his usual weight class in this upcoming bout.

Competing stateside at ONE Championship's first on-site event in the USA, Northcutt will meet 'Wolverine' Ahmed Mujtaba. 'Super' Sage tried his luck at in a larger weight class but suffered a first-round knockout. This time, he's happy to return to his the lightweight division that his body is used to.

In an interview with The MMA Superfan, Northcutt explained his weight change. He said:

"It was a very large weight class also, so going down to lightweight, that’s gonna be a much better fit for me. I believe then getting to have this fight back. I’ve been training very hard. Looking forward to getting out there and showing all the hard work that I’ve been putting in."

The lightweight matchup will be part of ONE's first on-site event in the USA and will be hosted at the 1stBank Center in Broomfield, Colorado. The fight card will be headlined by a world title meeting between ONE flyweight world champion 'Mighty Mouse' Demetrious Johnson and 'Mikinho' Adriano Moraes.

All the action on the card will be broadcast live and for free on Prime Video for all Amazon subscribers across North America.

Sage Northcutt wants to prove himself at ONE Fight Night 10

Sage Northcutt's most recent match was a first-round KO loss years ago. The American athlete wants to put this loss behind him and move forward with his MMA career.

The first step is earning a much-needed win at ONE Fight Night 10 on May 5.

While speaking in an interview with Ariel Helwani, ‘Super’ Sage explained:

“You asked about fans maybe forgetting or someone that might not know [me]. That’s the thing, I feel like coming into ONE Championship, I didn’t really get to show what I truly can do. And it was unfortunate what happened in my first fight with ONE Championship. But I’m coming off the UFC where I was fighting before, my last three fights consecutively, I was on a three-fight win streak.”

Sage Northcutt will be joining other notable fighters at ONE Fight Night 10 such as Stamp Fairtex, Rodtang Jitmuangnon, Demetrious Johnson, Aung La N Sang, and many other superstars.
