UFC welterweight Santiago Ponzinibbio was the last fighter to step on the scales at the UFC 282 official weigh-ins.

Due to the long wait, many started to think that the 'Argentine Dagger' might come overweight but Ponzinibbio weighed in at 179.5 pounds for his catchweight bout (180 pounds) at UFC 282.

Ahead of fight night, Ponzinibbio did an interview with MMA journalist Aaron Bronsteter.

During the chat, the 36-year-old revealed the reason for coming late to the weigh-ins. Ponzinibbio said that he was watching the World Cup football game between Croatia and Brazil which resulted in his weigh-in getting delayed:

"That's a crazy game, right? A crazy f**king game... Yeah, I [watched] it. The weigh-in is from 9 to 11 [am], right? I'm on time and I say, 'Okay, if I'm on time, I'm gonna enjoy this soccer game and go after.'"

Ponzinibbio then went on to speak about the similarities between soccer and MMA. 'Gente Boa' said that in both the sports, everything can change in seconds if you make a mistake.

Brazil and Croatia were matched up in the quarter-finals of the 2022 Qatar World Cup. The score at the end of extra time was 1-1. But Croatia snatched the game away on penalties as they scored four in response to Brazil's two.

Santiago Ponzinibbio faced a late-change in opponent at UFC 282

Santiago Ponzinibbio was originally scheduled to face MMA veteran Robbie Lawler at UFC 282.

Unfortunately, Lawler had to withdraw from the fight due to an injury. Alex Morono then stepped in as a short-notice replacement and now the fight will take place at catchweight (180 pounds).

Santiago Ponzinibbio is currently going through a rough patch in the UFC. 'Argentine Dagger' has managed to win only one of his last four bouts.

Prior to that, the 36-year-old was on a seven-fight win streak which included victories over Mike Perry, Gunnar Nelson and Neil Magny.

Morono, on the other hand, is currently riding a four-fight win streak, including a knockout win over Donald Cerrone.
