Following his win over Bibiano Fernandes at ONE on Prime Video 4, Stephen Loman announced himself as next in line for a shot at the ONE bantamweight world championship.

The Filipino fighter is ranked No.3 in the division, but he could wait a bit for that potential world title shot. After John Lineker and Fabricio Andrade’s world title matchup at ONE on Prime Video 3 ended in a no contest, it was clear that there would need to be an immediate rematch before Loman could get his opportunity.

In the first meeting between the two Brazilians, a big question going into the fight was how Fabricio Andrade would deal with the power of John Lineker. Through the former world champion's 35 professional wins, 17 of them have come by way of knockout, including his devastating finish of Bibiano Fernandes. That result saw him become the ONE bantamweight world champion.

In an interview with The MMA Superfan, Stephen Loman said that Andrade’s ability to deal with his opponent’s power, which he showed in their first fight, will be a huge asset in their rematch:

“We saw how Fabricio Andrade was able to absorb some shots from John Lineker in that first fight. If he gets hit with another clean shot in the rematch, one good punch that connects, then Andrade will feel the cobwebs shake.”

Stephen Loman also referenced Lineker’s performance against Fernandes:

“Lineker punched his way through Bibiano Fernandes in their fight. When he connected with those hooks, Bibiano got wobbled. If he does that to Andrade again, that would be great for him.”

Finally, he added:

“But I think Andrade’s conditioning is really great that he’s able to absorb those shots and brush them all off. I feel that he has this good way of absorbing shots.”

ONE Fight Night 7 is available live and for free to all existing Prime Video subscribers in North America.

Stephen Loman joins the many who feel Gantumur Bayanduuren should have just tapped

ONE bantamweight contender Stephen Loman shares the common opinion that Gantumur Bayanduuren should have tapped in his contest against Mikey Musumeci at ONE Fight Night 6 on Prime Video.

At ONE’s first event of the year, Bayanduuren challenged Musumeci for the ONE flyweight submission grappling world championship. Facing one of the best submission artists on the planet, it wasn’t long before the challenger found himself in all kinds of trouble.

For the majority of the contest, Musumeci threatened his opponent's leg and did everything he could to get Bayanduuren to tap. However, in a stubborn display of toughness, he refused.

Whilst he may have made it to the time limit, as a result of staying in the submission hold for so long, Bayanduuren suffered a torn ACL, MCL and meniscus. Adding a broken ankle to his shopping list of injuries, it will likely change his career forever.

Stephen Loman gave his take on the challenger refusing to tap in the same interview, saying:

“Of course, if I feel there’s no escape and there’s no choice left but to tap, I would. I wouldn’t want to risk breaking my limbs, I definitely don't want to shatter my leg. That would take several months of recovery, months where you can’t fight. You can’t even walk. You’re just sitting there and waiting for what your doctor tells you to do.”
