Jorge Masvidal was once on the receiving end of one of the craziest submissions seen inside an MMA cage.

Toby Imada and Masvidal locked horns back in May 2009, fighting for Bellator MMA. They faced each other in the semifinals of the promotion's Season One Lightweight Tournament at Bellator 5. The fight was a back-and-forth affair, with both fighters dishing out punishment.

Take a look at the submission below:

In the third round of the fight, Jorge Masvidal was under Toby Imada and decided to stand up. As he stood up, Imada showed incredible fight IQ by wrapping his legs around 'Gamebred' and making his way to a reverse triangle choke.

As he squeezed his legs harder and used his hand position for leverage, his Masvidal slowly started losing consciousness and fell to the floor.

The move earned Toby Imada the Submission of the Year award from various MMA media houses and magazines, with some even calling it the greatest submission in MMA history.

Masvidal went on to fight for Strikeforce before eventually making his way to the UFC and becoming one of the more prominent fighters in the promotion.

Toby Imada, on the other hand, had a long and illustrious MMA career that saw him fight for multiple renowned promotions. However, he never fought in the UFC and is currently retired.

Chael Sonnen believes Jorge Masvidal should fight Nick Diaz next

Chael Sonnen recently gave out some career advice to Jorge Masvidal.

'Gamebred' is looking to get back to winning ways after losing his last three fights in a row. Masvidal is looking to challenge Leon Edwards for the title, which the Brit won last August. The pair have a lot of bad blood and Edwards is looking to settle the 'beef' in a grudge match.

However, Chael Sonnen believes there is another opponent that makes sense for Masvidal's next fight:

"Nick [Diaz] was at Madison Square Garden. Nick was in the corner for the 'BMF' title, but Masvidal never co-signed it. He never went for that... I don't know why. I know he knows how big that would be and I know he knows I'm right that that would work, that's obvious. But he didn't do it and I don't predict he's gonna."

Nick Diaz was in the corner for the 'BMF' title fight between Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal. Diaz is still signed with the UFC and last fought in September 2021 against Robbie Lawler.
