After the UFC recently announced Season 31 of The Ultimate Fighter pitting Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler as opposing coaches, Tony Ferguson took to Twitter to react.

In typical Ferguson fashion, he dropped a tweet, calling out McGregor for taking "The Easy Road."

Given 'El Cucuy's recent run, many fans saw him as a potential opponent for McGregor's return. Rumors were rife that Ferguson would coach season 31 of TUF alongside McGregor and, at its conclusion, would face the Irishman in the octagon.

Ferguson most recently served as a last-minute replacement against Nate Diaz, a bout he lost by submission. He has now lost five on the trot, causing his time at the top to be called into question.

Many believe Ferguson is now well past his prime and that he should seek money fights. Given his history with McGregor, Ferguson was seen as a prime candidate to face 'The Notorious'. Unfortunately for the former interim lightweight champion, it appears the UFC has other plans.

TUF 31, Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler details revealed

At the conclusion of Season 31 of TUF, Conor McGregor's highly anticipated return to the octagon will be underway. Michael Chandler has been the frontrunner to face McGregor for quite some time now, as the former Bellator champion has repeatedly called out the former two-division champion.

While initial rumors indicated that Tony Ferguson was being considered as McGregor's counterpart for the upcoming season of TUF, Chandler is now locked in for a coaching role.

The duo will square off in a welterweight bout at the end of the season. After knocking out Tony Ferguson last year, Michael Chandler called for a 170-pound scrap. Given Conor McGregor's current bulked-up physique, this appears to make sense for all parties involved.

McGregor has competed at welterweight previously, with his two-fight series with Nate Diaz being contested at 170 pounds. The Irish superstar's dominant 40-second TKO victory over Donald Cerrone back in 2020 was also a welterweight bout.

As for TUF 31, the season will feature two men's divisions - bantamweight and lightweight.
