Tributes for Glover Teixeira flood Twitter following his retirement from MMA

Glover Teixeira called time on his MMA career following a unanimous decision loss to Jamahal Hill at UFC 283. The Brazilian was attempting to regain the title he lost to Jiri Prochazka at UFC 275 but was outclassed from the opening bell until the end of the fifth round.

Teixeira's career has been incredible, and he bows out of the sport with a record of 33-9. He also holds several UFC records, including the most submissions and most finishes in light heavyweight history. Following his retirement announcement, tributes began to flood the Twittersphere as fans and fighters alike showed their appreciation for the Brazilian.

Former opponents Thiago Santos and Jiri Prochazka tweeted the following:

"What a career, congratulations @gloverteixeira you are a great and true champ, it was a honor for me to share the octagon with you my friend."

Michael Bisping commends the grit Glover Teixeira displayed at UFC 283

Glover Teixeira was comprehensively defeated by Jamahal Hill in the main event of UFC 283. Referee Marc Goddard was close to stopping the fight multiple times as Hill landed a barrage of punches, knees to the body, and devastating head kicks.

The heart and durability displayed by Glover Teixeira is hard to quantify. Despite his face being stricken with cuts and bruises, the Brazilian never wavered as he continued to march Hill down until the final bell.

Michael Bisping reflected on the fight and praised the grit and determination shown by the Brazilian:

"My respect for Glover Teixeira is endless. What that man just did, what he just endured, the toughness that he showed - he is a legend personified... He was getting beaten to a pulp, his face was getting busted up, blood pouring from his eyeballs. Did the man give up? Did he stop? Look for a way out? No. He continued to fight every single minute."
