Deron Winn was forced to pull out of his UFC Vegas 66 clash against Julian Marquez due to a freak injury. The 33-year-old fainted and fell down the stairs at the UFC PI, suffering a concussion that led to the cancelation of the bout.

Winn has now posted a heartfelt message sharing his feelings. The UFC middleweight admitted to being exhausted after a year filled with bad fights and accidents. The 33-year-old wrote:

"Seems like I haven’t been able to catch a break lately. Dealing with death over and over again in my life. Traumatizing fights and freak accidents. Hoping 2023 is a step in the right direction for me. The boy is exhausted."

While the bout was canceled, the good news is that Winn reportedly suffered only a mild injury and appears to be recovering well. The UFC middleweight also apologized to his opponent Julian Marquez, who was left without an opponent.

This would only have been the second fight of the year for Winn after a brutal TKO loss to Phil Hawes back in June. The 33-year-old had to undergo surgery for an orbital fracture after the fight.

Deron Winn reveals possible reason for fainting at the UFC PI

Deron Winn's teammate seemingly told him to tie his shoelaces right before the fateful fall from the stairs. Winn tied his shoelaces as instructed and was following his friends when he lost consciousness.

The 33-year-old claims to have been told by a doctor that bending forward to tie his shoelaces may have caused him to faint. Winn said in an Instagram post:

"Right before we went up the stairs, my teammate actually told me to tie my shoes so that I didn't risk falling down the stairs... I guess I was going up the stairs and I don't know if I lost consciousness because I bent over and tied my shoes and went straight upstairs. That's what the doctor said probably happened."

Not sounding enthusiastic about his Christmas, Winn also stated that he plans on returning to action as soon as possible.

Winn has a history of bad weight cuts, even missing weight for his bout against Darren Stewart back in October 2019. It must be noted that small movements can have a substantial impact on a fighter during a weight cut.
