Teenage fighting sensation Victoria Lee will make her highly anticipated return to the ONE Championship circle on January 13 at ONE on Prime Video 6. MMA Fighting broke the news late Tuesday night.
The Singaporean-American superstar will face India’s Zeba Bano in a three round strawweight mixed martial arts contest and will look to extend her unblemished record of 3-0 in the Singapore-based promotion.
The youngest of the three Lee siblings competing in ONE Championship, Victoria famously made her professional mixed martial arts debut at the age of 16, following in the footsteps of her older brother, ONE lightweight world champion Christian ‘The Warrior’ Lee, and ONE women’s atomweight world champion ‘Unstoppable’ Angela Lee.
She made her debut against Thailand’s Sunisa Srisen, submitting her opponent with a rear-naked choke in the second round. Lee followed up that victory with a first-round triangle armbar of Wang Luping.
‘The Prodigy’ then earned her first technical knockout win by stopping Brazil’s Victoria Souza in the first round in September of last year. Having graduated from high school and free of injuries that plagued her in 2022, the now 18-year-old is set to embark on a quest for strawweight supremacy.
ONE on Prime Video 6 broadcasts live from the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand, and will air live and for free on Prime Video on January 13.
Could Victoria Lee contend for women’s strawweight gold like older sister Angela Lee?
With her impeccable grappling skills and well-rounded striking repertoire, it’s clear Victoria Lee is cut from the same cloth as her older, more established sibling Angela. The two possess similar skills, with the same set of strengths and weaknesses.
It’s not far-fetched to think Lee could contend for the strawweight belt in the very near future if she can continue the success she has enjoyed early in her career.
Angela battled reigning ONE women’s strawweight world champion ‘The Panda’ Xiong Jing Nan for ONE Championship’s 125-pound strap on two separate occasions, most recently failing in her bid at ONE on Prime Video 2 last September via unanimous decision.
While that trilogy is owned by Xiong 2-1, Victoria Lee could emerge as a new challenger for the dominant Chinese queen in a division that needs fresh blood. It’s possible Lee is out seeking victory where her older sibling could not, setting up a dramatic storyline.
It depends on how Victoria Lee performs against Zeba Bano at ONE on Prime Video 6. If ‘The Prodigy’ wins, anything is possible.
