Terrance McKinney welcomed Brazilian debutant Ismael Bonfim at the UFC 283 prelims card. McKinney was a slight favorite going into enemy territory against 'Marreta', who was undefeated in his last twelve outings.

While McKinney's jab found its mark early on, Bonfim answered with looping overhands that forced 'Twrecks' to stay against the cage. 'Marreta' ended the opening frame with a successful takedown, forcing McKinney to go to a second round for the first time in his UFC career.

Bonfim went on to land a flush switch knee that sent McKinney's mouthpiece flying as his unconscious body slumped to the canvas at 2:17 of round 2.

Terrance McKinney has now gone 3-2 in his UFC career after suffering a first-round stoppage loss against Drew Dober last year.

Meanwhile, Ismael Bonfim earned a UFC contract with a decision win over Nariman Abbasov at DWCS in November, topping off an eleven-fight streak. 'Marreta's last loss came back in 2014 against a future UFC slugger, Renato Moicano.

Bonfim's brother Gabriel also went on to submit Mounir Lazzez within 49 seconds of their welterweight clash at UFC 283.

Terrance McKinney's reaction to his brutal KO loss against Ismael Bonfim

Terrance McKinney had no lack of confidence going into his UFC 283 matchup against Ismael Bonfim. 'Twrecks' labeled Bonfim a decision fighter, dismissing the Brazilian newcomer's win streak despite their resumes looking similar on paper.

McKinney was looking to up his stock with a dominant victory over 'Marreta', ideally a first-round stoppage. The 28-year-old previously said on The MMA Hour:

“I was happy with it, because on paper it seems like it’s going to be a close match. I like that, so when I do dominate, there’s no choice but to give me a ranked opponent after this — someone in the top-15... I got to go out there and get him out of there in the first round."

Taking more digs, McKinney also offered prayers for 'Marreta' going into the fight.

However, McKinney was gracious in defeat as he hugged Bonfim after getting knocked out on his feet. 'Twrecks' wrote on Twitter:

"That’s the fight game. Respect [salute] I hope I can still eat at the steakhouse tonight."

Aplogising to his supporters, the 28-year-old added:

"Sorry you guys I’ll be back better next time I love you guys 🙏"
