Although UFC 288 is months away, the promotion prides itself on holding high-profile pay-per-views, and it seems the event on May 6 is set to produce another spectacle as a number of great matchups have already been confirmed.

While the location, venue, and potential title fight headliner are yet to be announced by the company, the card is beginning to take shape and already has one monumental clash with championship implications likely going to the winner.

In what will at the very least be a main card fight, Charles Oliveira will make his octagon return for the first time since losing his throne to Islam Makhachev last October. 'Do Bronx' will take on Beneil Dariush, who is currently on an eight-fight win streak. The winner is likely to earn a title shot against Makhachev.

Following his one-sided loss against Ilia Topuria, fan-favorite Bryce Mitchell is desperate to once again spearhead his way through the featherweight division. However, he must first test his elite grappling ability against the tough Jonathan Pearce.

Since losing to Joe Lauzon in his UFC debut, 'JSP' has moved down to 145 where he remains undefeated in the promotion, winning each of his last five and showcasing his heart in the process.

'The Machine' Rolando Bedoya is a teammate of Charles Oliveira and has displayed throughout his career the capability of being able to handle all facets of mixed martial arts. He will now have to deal with the destructive power of 'Khaos' Williams in his debut appearance for the UFC.

Alongside the previously mentioned matchups, bantamweights Daniel Santos and Johnny Munoz Jr. will look to extend their winning run to two straight in a brawl that could steal the spotlight.

UFC 288: What are the implications for the Charles Oliveira and Beneil Dariush bout?

Ever since losing his title to Islam Makhachev late last year, Charles Oliveira has had his eyes firmly placed on recapturing his lightweight throne, but will that be next if he wins at UFC 288?

Beneil Dariush is thought by many to be the rightful challenger for the 155lb championship. While a win could put him in line for a title shot, it may depend on results elsewhere.

With Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler's season of The Ultimate Fighter right around the corner, the UFC may wait to see who emerges with their hands raised before the next lightweight title fight is announced.
