Chael Sonnen wants Irish superstar Conor McGregor to be matched up against Jorge Masvidal upon his return to the octagon.

'The American Gangster' believes that McGregor versus 'Gamebred' is a "match made in heaven" and should already be in the works. Sonnen stated the same in a recently released video on his YouTube channel. In the video, the former middleweight title contender also mentioned that he is not interested in seeing McGregor and Dustin Poirier share the octagon for a fourth time:

"I haven't the foggiest idea why Masvidal versus Conor wasn't just a match made in heaven and shot straight up in the air. I have not got any idea who allowed cold water to be thrown on that flame. But it's still a place that we're at. I also don't know who is saying that we're gonna put Conor in there with Poirier for the hundredth time. I mean, there was a number of matches that I just personally loved and some that I didn't understand."

Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier have shared the octagon on three separate occasions. In their first bout at UFC 178, McGregor scored an impressive knockout victory in the first round.

However, 'The Diamond' avenged his loss by becoming the first fighter to knock the Irishman out at UFC 257.

In their third encounter at UFC 264, McGregor suffered a leg injury at the end of the first round that stopped the fight. Poirier was declared the winner via a doctor's stoppage TKO.

Henry Cejudo weighs in on Conor McGregor vs. Jorge Masvidal

Henry Cejudo shares the same sentiment as Chael Sonnen regarding the exciting potential matchup between Conor McGregor and Jorge Masvidal.

According to Cejudo, Masvidal is an ideal opponent for the Irishman as 'Gamebred' is prominently a striker. 'The Messenger' also feels that Masvidal being on a three-fight losing streak works in the Irishman's favor.

The former multi-division champion hyped up the potential fight by saying that both athletes possessed impressive mic skills that could help bring in huge pay-per-view numbers:

"This is a good fight for Conor McGregor. Why? It's because there's really no grappling involved. You want guys that can strike and wanna strike and don't wanna grapple. And plus, Jorge Masvidal... I think he's [on] a three, or four-fight losing streak?... I think Jorge Masvidal would be the best return for him, 170 pounds. They both have the mouthpiece, just imagine how many pay-per-views they could sell."
