MMA journalist Ariel Helwani, former two-division champion Henry Cejudo, and many others expressed their thoughts on Brandon Moreno's victory against Amir Albazi at UFC Edmonton. Everyone was more than impressed with Moreno's performance as he moved closer to another shot at the flyweight title, which he lost to Alexandre Pantoja at UFC 290 last year.
Moreno took on Albazi in a flyweight showdown in the main event of UFC Edmonton, which took place this past Saturday at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Canada. The former champion entered the bout having lost his last two fights.
In his last octagon outing at UFC Fight Night 237 earlier this year, Moreno squared off against Brandon Royval and suffered a split decision loss. Meanwhile, Albazi was on a five-fight win streak since making his promotional debut in 2020.
The Iraqi fighter was coming off a split-decision win against Kai Kara-France at UFC Vegas 74 last year.
Moreno delivered a strong performance, dominating Albazi throughout the fight by demonstrating his striking prowess and countering his opponent's attacks. The 31-year-old was covered in blood when the bout came to an end.
After five rounds of intense action, Moreno was declared the winner via unanimous decision. The judges scored the contest (50-45 x2, 49-46) in favor of 'The Assassin Baby'.
Following Moreno's win, Helwani took to X and wrote:
''Y’all must’ve forgot: Brandon Moreno edition''
Cejudo praised Moreno's performance, writing:
''Vintage Brandon Moreno. Masterclass #UFCEdmonton''
MMA journalist Mike Heck also commended Moreno for demonstrating remarkable grit, writing:
''Brandon Moreno looked freaking incredible tonight. You could see it from the walkout, to his intensity during Buffer's intro that we were getting a vintage version of the former two-time champ. Yeah, I'd say he delivered.''
Former two-division champion and UFC legend BJ Penn wrote:
''The assassin baby is back! #UFCEdmonton''
