Merab Dvalishvili and Sean O'Malley have a unique history as the Georgian once set his sights on the Arizona native after his debut and now fate has brought them to UFC 316, where they will compete for the second time. Both have had a somewhat similar path to the UFC and have achieved success by becoming champions.
Dvalishvili earned his UFC contract on 'Dana White: Lookin' for a Fight', while O'Malley earned his contract following an incredible knockout win on the 'Dana White's Contender Series'. Both surged up the ranks and earned impressive wins and were on a collision course at Noche UFC last September.
Their first encounter saw 'The Machine' earn a unanimous decision to dethrone 'Suga' and will now enter the rematch as the reigning champion.
Red Corner MMA recently posted a video to their X account, which shows Dvalishvili issuing a callout to O'Malley.

Dvalishvili had just bounced back following back-to-back losses to earn his first win inside the octagon in 2018 and mentioned that O'Malley was a logical opponent for his next bout. He said:
"I want to fight with [O'Malley]. Let's go. 'Lookin' For a Fight' winner versus 'Contender Series' winner and then we'll see who's better. Sean O'Malley, keep smoking. I will keep training and we'll see who's better! Let's do this! He is a great fighter and I want to fight with great guys. I'm not scared of anybody. I know I can stop this guy. I'm not scared to lose, I want to show a good fight with everyone."

Who did Merab Dvalishvili defeat to earn a UFC contract?
Merab Dvalishvili earned a UFC contract in 2017 after earning a spectacular win over Raufeon Stots at Ring of Combat 59.
Dana White was in attendance as he was filming an episode of 'Lookin' For a Fight' along with Din Thomas and Dvalishvili's coach Matt Serra. In the episode, Serra discloses that Stots was the reason White had interest in the event as he was somebody that was on the UFC's radar.
Dvalishvili took full advantage of White being in attendance as he knocked Stots out with a spinning backfist in only 15 seconds of the first round. White was impressed and offered 'The Machine' a UFC contract.
