Memories of the great Ayrton Senna remind Lewis Hamilton to cautious as the Mercedes driver chases a fourth Formula One world championship title.

Hamilton benefited from an early crash that knocked rivals Sebastian Vettel, Kimi Raikkonen and Max Verstappen out of the Singapore Grand Prix to win at the Marina Bay Street Circuit on Sunday.

The Brit, who idolises Senna, claims knowledge of the late Brazilian star's career helps him to avoid making mistakes while leading the field.

"I could have easily just binned it," he said.

He said of a mistake made by Senna in Monte Carlo in 1988: "Every now and then Senna pops into my mind. The Monaco Grand Prix where he was obviously in the lead and hit the wall, that always comes in and reminds me not to do that.

"I've had experiences like that but I learnt that lesson.

"That always just comes in and reminds me in the back of my mind. It's almost like he talks to me, just stay focused, keep it together."
