Corey LaJoie gave an oddly specific analogy over his return to Spire Motorsports. LaJoie said coming back to the team was like getting kicked out of a house he built and returning to the guest room with his wife's new boyfriend around.
LaJoie made his Cup Series debut in 2014. The 33-year-old shifted from Spire Motorsports to Rick Ware Racing mid-season in 2024 before signing a nine-race deal in the team's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series program this year. Driving the #07 Chevrolet, the 33-year-old will kick off his 2025 Truck campaign at Michigan International Speedway this weekend.
Reflecting on working with the team again, Corey LaJoie shared his thoughts with the media at Michigan using an analogy. He said (via NASCAR Insider Steven Taranto on X):
“It's like when you've worked building a house for five years, and then your wife becomes a TikTok star and says she's not happy anymore and she kicks you out. And then she calls you back a year later and you have to go live in the guest room and she's there with her new boyfriend. That's how this thing goes.”
The North Carolina native previously ran the #7 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet Cup car for three years (2021-2023) before getting axed midway through the 2024 season. He also made three of his five Truck Series starts with the team in the last two years.
Corey LaJoie will add more Truck Series races to his resume, starting this weekend in the DQS Solutions & Staffing 250 at Michigan International Speedway. The 125-lap race is scheduled for June 7 at 12:00 p.m. ET on Fox.
Off the track, the returning NASCAR driver is one of the broadcasters for Amazon Prime's five-race coverage this year. He works with a star-studded lineup, including Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Carl Edwards.
“It'll be good to see them”: Corey LaJoie on reuniting with former team
In a press release, Corey LaJoie looked forward to seeing some long-time Spire Motorsports members who were with him in the team's early days. He also hoped to win some races to contribute to securing the owner's championship.
The now part-time NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver said:
“I’m looking forward to getting back in the seat and chasing some NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series wins. I put in a lot of work in the early days to help shape Spire Motorsports, and I still have some friends that have been there since day one, so it’ll be good to see them.”
“It’ll be nice to have some consistency with the team to get acclimated to these vehicles, chase some wins and hopefully, a Craftsman Truck Series owner’s championship,” he concluded.

As of this writing, the #07 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet has one win, three top-5s, and four top-10s this year. The sole victory came at the hands of Kyle Larson, who drove the truck to the checkered flag at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Other drivers in the rotation include Kyle Busch, William Byron, and Justin Haley.
Corey LaJoie will take the truck to the end of the season alongside full-time drivers Rajah Caruth (#71) and Andrés Pérez De Lara (#77). Caruth is the series' latest race winner following a commanding performance at Nashville Superspeedway last week.
