Carlos Carmona: A Brief Biography

Carlos Carmona is a professional footballer who currently plays for Chile and Colo Colo, which is a club in the top tier league of the Chilean football league system. Born on 21st February 1987, the midfielder is a seasoned veteran who has spent the bulk of his career in Italy's Serie A. Known for his accurate passing and mobility on the field, the right footed player has also represented Chile in the last two World Cups.

Carmona is a product of the youth system of club Coquimbo Unido, which plays in Chile's second division.


Carlos Carmona emerged on the international stage in 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship, where he was Chile’s youngest player at the age of 17. 2007 saw him captioning the Chilean side to a bronze medal in the Under-20 FIFA World Cup. His international fortunes continued in the 2008 Under-23 Toulon Tournament, where Chile won the silver medal


Debut


Carmona made his professional debut for Coquimbo in 2004 at the age of 16. The first goal came from his boot against rivals, Deportes La Serena in July 2004. His first season saw him making 30 appearances for the team which included a goal.


His phenomenal performances at the youth level earned him a call up for the 2010 World Cup qualifying game against Bolivia . Carmona started in another qualifier victory against Venezuela.


Club Career


After having a successful first season with Coquimbo, Carmona swiftly rose through the ranks and became a regular starter for the team. He remained with the team for 3 seasons, appearing on 92 occasions while netting the ball 7 times.


In 2008, Carmona transferred to O’Higgins, which also plays in Primera Division. However he could not replicate his success with Coquimbo and spent most of the time on the bench.


Consequently, Carmona ended up moving again, this time to Italy’s top division, Serie A. He was bought by Urbs Reggina where Carmona spent a fruitful season, making 32 starts for the team. However the next season saw the club being relegated to second division and Carmon transferred to another second division club, Atlanta for the 2010-2011 season.


Carmona helped the team in winning the league and being promoted to the top division. He stayed with the club for the next seven seasons during which the club did not get relegated. In the seven seasons with the club, Carmona made 155 appearances and netted the ball 5 times.


In 2018, Carmona came back to the Chilean football system after joining Colo Colo.
