Eder Alvarez Balanta: A Brief Biography

Eder Balanta is a Colombian professional footballer. He was born on 28 February 1993 in Bogota, Colombia. He plays for Colombia national football team and Basel.


He is a left footed centre back.


Background


Eder signed with Llaneros (then known as Academia) at the age of 17 in 2010. His injury woes meant that he could never play for the national youth team of Colombia.


Club Atletico River Plate picked him in 2011 to play for their youth team. He played with them upto 2013.


Debut


Balanta made his international debut on 5 March 2014 against Tunisia in the RCDE Stadium. He came in as a substitute to Pablo Armero in the 66th minute. The match ended in 1-1 draw with James Rodriguez and Wahbi Khazri scoring for Colombia and Tunisia respectively.


Since his debut, Balanta has made 8 appearances for the national side and is yet to score a goal.


Club career


From the youth team, Eder moved to the senior team of River Plate in 2013. In his three year stint with the Argentine club, he scored 2 goals in 52 appearances.


In 2016, he moved to FC Basel and is currently playing for them. He has scored 1 goal for them in 28 appearances so far.


Records


With River plate, Eden has won the U20 Copa Libertadores 2012, Argentine Primera División Torneo Final 2014, Copa Sudamericana 2015 and Copa Libertadores 2015.


He has also won the Swiss Super League 2016-17 and Swiss Cup 2016-17 with FC Basel.
