Fernando Belluschi: A Brief Biography
Fernando Daniel Belluschi is an Argentine professional footballer who plays as a midfielder, currently for the club San Lorenzo of the Argentine Primera División.
Born on 10th September 1983, Belluschi is known for his attacking instincts as he plays the role of an attacking midfielder and can also play wide across the field.
Hailing from Los Quirquinchos, he has a very strong weak foot that he can play with both the feet. He won the Argentina Footballer of the Year award in the year 2016.
Background
In 2002 January, Belluschi started his professional career at Newell's Old Boys after spending his tie at Newell's Under 19. He played there till 2005 featuring in 90 matches finding the net on 25 occasions. He then moved for free to River Plate in 2006.
Debut
He made his professional debut for Newell’s Old Boys in 2002 season. He spent his time at the club till 2006 where he won the Argentine Primera División in the 2004 season. He got his national call-up in the year 2005 and has since made 6 appearances for the country starting on 2 occasions.
Rise to glory
He played for the River Plate in the 2006/2007 season and was appointed as the captain of the club following the departure of Marcelo Gallardo to Paris Saint-Germain.
After captaining the club for 2 seasons and playing in a total of 48 league matches, he was signed by Olympiacos in the 2008 season.
In 2009, Porto FC brought 50% of his economic rights for €5 million. He played 36 matches for the club and scored 6 times.
He was with the club till 2012 when he was sent to Genoa on loan in the 2012 season.
He was then sold to Bursaspor for €2.55m following his failed loan spell where he featured in only 14 matches scoring once.
He played for 3 seasons scoring 11 times and was on the move for free on 10th July 2015 to Cruz Azul with a salary of €1.1 million. He failed to score for the club in 8 matches including a failed attempt to score a penalty.
On 26 January 2016, San Lorenzo signed the then-32-year-old Belluschi for free. He started finding the net again as he scored 9 times in Argentine top tier in 48 matches which earned him Argentine footballer of the year award.
Club career
He played for Newell's Old Boys in the 2002 season and moved to River Plate in 2005. Afer failing to win any trophies there, he moved to Olympiacos in 2007.
He won the Superleague Greece and the Greek Cup in both the season as he further moved to Porto in 2009.
He was on loan at Genoa in 2012 season. He then signed for Bursaspor on a free transfer. After three seasons in the Turkish league, he moved to Cruz Azul for free.
After this failed move where he couldn’t impress the fans, he made his move from Mexico to Argentina again with San Lorenzo signing him for free. He won the Supercopa Argentina with them in 2015.
