Ignacio Fernandez

Ignacio Martín Fernández is an Argentine professional footballer who was born on 12th January 1990 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Fernandez is a left-footed central midfielder and currently plays for River Plate in the Argentine Primera Division.

Background

At the age of just 13 years, young Fernandez joined Gimnasia La Plata in the year 2003 and with his amazing football skills, he impressed everyone and was selected in the senior team where he played till 2016.

He was bought by Temperley on loan for 2011-12 season and returned back to Gimnasia La Plata. In the year 2016, after being released by Gimnasia, River Plate signed a contract with Fernandez till 2021.

Debut

Fernandez received his first international cap for the Argentina national team on 13th June, 2017 and he played a pivotal role for his side in the only appearance he could make and he is eyeing a comeback to the national side again.

Rise to Glory

Fernandez came into prominence in the year 2016 where he showcased his football skills and he caught everyone’s eyes and was eventually selected in the national squad.

However, he has represented his country for only one match but he has the ability to to perform well and return with his Argentina teammates.

Club Career

Ignacio spent better part of his career with Gimnasia La Plata for 13 long years including his youth career. In the course of 6 years with Gimnasia La Plata senior team, he managed to score 16 goals in 109 appearances.

Fernandez had a fabulous 2011-12 season with Temperley where he scored 9 goals in just 29 appearances after which he came back again with Gimnasia La Plata and continued to play till 2016 after which he was bought by River Plate.

Ignacio plays an important role for his side, River Plate, as a midfielder and has wore 44 caps for them but has not scored a goal yet. He will have a pressure to fulfill the expectations of his fans and coach in the upcoming matches.

Records

Fernandez was the part of the River Plate squad when they lifted Copa Argentina twice in 2015–16 season and 2016–17 season.

In the same year, he was also the part of the squad when his side won the Recopa Sudamericana in 2016.
