José Fernando Cuadrado is a Colombian shot stopper who has enjoyed a highly successful domestic career at his homeland and was recently rewarded for his consistency by becoming a probable for the national team. He currently plays for Once Caldas in the Colombian top division.
Background
Cuadrado was born on 1 June, 1985 in Valledupar, Colombia. He was scouted into the youth academy of Millonarios at a young age.
Debut
Cuadrado made his highly deserving and long pending debut in November 2017 in a friendly against China. He managed a clean sheet on debut and Colombia comprehensive thrashed the hosts 4-0.
Rise to glory
Cuadrado has been constantly overlooked by selectors in a team filled with budding goalkeeping talents. It has been difficult to replace David Ospina at the helm so he only has one international cap to his name.
He was earlier selected for national duties way back in 2014 but was soon left in isolation. He is in the race for shot stopping duties for Colombia in the 2018 World Cup.
Club career
Despite having an accomplished domestic career, Cuadrado can consider himself unlucky to not play for European clubs.
He has played for Millonarios for over five seasons before having a brief stint at Deportivo Cali. He made a name for his agility and amazing reflexes.
He spent three seasons at Deportivo Pasto before joining present club Once Caldas in 2013. He has made well over 100 league appearances and become one of the pillars of the mid table team. Discipline apparently is not his forte, being regularly booked and having received a modest share of yellow cards. However he more than makes up for it with his amazing shot stopping skills.
