Laurent Depoitre: A Brief Biography

Laurent Depoitre is a Belgian professional football player. He was born on 7 December 1988 in Tournai, Belgium. He mainly plays the role of a forward and is currently playing for Premier League’s Huddersfield Town and the Belgian national team.


Background


Depoitre began his career at AS Montkainoise in 1995 at the age of seven. After playing there for six years, he joined Excelsior Moeskroen in 2001.


Debut


Depoitre made his senior debut for the national team with the UEFA Euro 2016 qualification match held on October 10, 2015 and which was a 4–1 win against Andorra .

Rise to glory


Depoitre scored fourth goal for his team in the UEFA Euro 2016 qualification match held at Estadi Nacional, Andorra la Vella, Andorra on October 10, 2015; wherein he was making his debut.


Club career


Depoitre spent two of his initial years with Excelsior Moeskroen after which he moved to R.F.C. Tournai in 2003 and spent two years in the youth wing before being transferred to its senior wing in 2005.


He scored twelve goals for R.F.C. Tournai in the thirty-one appearances he made for it.


He then moved to RRC Péruwelz in 2007 and made sixteen goals in forty three appearances he made for it. On July 1, 2009, he was moved to Eendracht Aalst in a free transfer. He made 16 goals in the 47 league appearances he made for it and won the best player of the team in the process after his first season with the club. He was transferred to KV Oostende on July 1, 2012.


He made twenty goals there in the 62 appearances he made for them. On July 1, 2014, he was transferred to KAA Gent and went on to score 24 goals in the 58 matches he played for them in the Belgian Pro League.


On August 8, 2016 he was transferred to FC Porto in a deal worth £5.40 million. He scored 1 goal in the seven appearances he made for them. The only league in which he played for them was Primeira Liga.

From Porto he was transferred to Huddersfield Town on July 1, 2017 in a deal worth approximately £3.42 million. This deal fee was a record for the club. He made 257 appearances (league, Cup, Europe, etc.) for the club and scored a total of 82 goals in them.


Records


Manchester City paid €75 million for De Bruyne for a reported fee of £55 million (€75 million) making him the second most expensive transfer in British football history.


De Bruyne ended the Europa league season with 21 assists which was a Bundesliga record.
