Sergio Juste Biography


Sergio Juste Marin, popularly known as ‘Chechi’, is a Spanish footballer born on 12 January 1992.


The versatile defender who can play in multiple positions across the backline, has been a part of some renowned clubs across the globe, such as Barcelona, Gimnastic de Tarragona, Pobla Mafumet and Hospitalet.


He is currently a part of Indian professional football franchise, Goa FC.


Background


Born in Tarragona, port city located in northeast Spain, Sergio began playing football in one of the most prominent clubs of the country, youth academy of FC Barcelona in 2001.


After a year with Barcelona, he moved to neighbouring Gimnastic de Tarragona to further increase the skills in his arsenal.


Senior club career


After 7 years long development in Gimnastic de Tarragona, on 20 June 2009, at just 17, he made his senior debut while playing for Pobla Mafumet for 32 minutes as a substitute in a 0–1 away loss against SD Eibar.


In 2011-12, with the club still in the second division, Juste was promoted to the main squad for his exceptional blocking and passing skills. He made 29 appearances for Pobla till 2011 and scored once.


In August 2012, Juste gained his all-time highest market value of £540k and returned to his parent club Barcelona, signing a two-year contract and being assigned to the B-side.


He made his debut for Barcelona B on 31 May of the following year, playing the last three minutes of a 4–3 home win over AD Alcorcon.


The young lad was offered a two year extended deal with the club, to which he agreed.


He rose to become the captain of the team in the middle of 2014 and played a total of 21 games in his 4 year tenure with the club.


Sergio joined Hospitalet for the season 2016-17 in a free transfer. He made 36 appearances for the club and scored at 2 times.


In the year 2017, ‘Chechi’ was signed as the fifth foreigner player of Goa FC in the cash rich Indian football tournament, ISL.


He is a player adept at playing the ball out of the back and was seen as a good back-up option for Pinheiro in the team.


International career


On 31 December 2011, Juste played his debut and only match for Catalonia, in a friendly with Tunisia.


Low points


Sergio has been the victim of injuries throughout of his career. In 2012, one such injury happened when he was enjoying at the peak of his career.


Juste’s damaged anterior cruciate ligament and his persistent knee problem sidelined him from the game for about 2 years.


Promising future


Being the spine of some prominent clubs like Barcelona and Pobla, Juste has announced his abilities and is positive about his current tenure with the Indian club.


The youngster has made his international debut and his incessant efforts can soon cement a place for him in the national team.
