Stefan Medina: A Brief Biography

John Stefan Medina Ramirez is a Colombian footballer who plays as a right back and sometimes as a defensive midfielder. He was born on 14 June 1992 in Envigado, Colombia and is a prolific player in the right back position.


Background


Medina started his football career at the youth academy of Atletico Nacional and played for the Nacional's U19 team. He was included in the Colombia U17 squad and made 2 appearances.


In July 2010, he was included in the reserve squad and made his debut for the Nacional senior team in the later half of the 2010-11 season. He made 28 appearances for Nacional in his debut season.


Debut


Medina made his international debut for Colombia in a World Cup Qualification South America match against Uruguay in a 2-0 loss. He made his next appearance in a match against Chile which ended in a 3-3 tie. He has since then made 10 appearances for Colombia.


Club Career


Medina played for Nacional for 4 seasons and made 68 appearances while scoring 2 goals and providing 1 assist. In July 2014, Medina was signed by Mexican club CF Monterrey.


He made his debut for Monterrey against Leones Negros in a 3-1 win. He made 92 appearances for CF Monterrey while scoring one goal and providing one assist.


Medina was loaned to CF Pachuca in November 2015. He became the regular starter and became the Mexican Champion in 2015-16 when Pachuca defeated his former club Monterrey on aggregate by 2-1.


Pachuca extended his loan period for the next season and he became the Concacaf Champions League winner in 2016-17 against Tigers UANL. He made 55 appearances for Pachuca while scoring 4 goals and provided 3 assists.


In June 2017, Medina's loan period with Pachuca was terminated and he returned to CF Monterrey. He made 37 appearances after returning for Monterrey while providing one goal and assist each.
