Roberts said, “On set, I was like 'Oh yeah, we're totally going to date,' and I would try to flirt with him, which ended up looking like I had something in my eye.” She also added, "He literally didn't speak to me the entire movie, like thought I was so weird."

However, after a year of dating, the two broke up for the first time in June 2015 and broke off their engagement. As per People, a source close to the actress explained the reason for their split and said, "​​They grew apart. They both had a lot of growing to do and it was better that they do it on their own."

Nevertheless, the two got back with each other two months later and continued with their engagement. In 2016, Roberts and Peters once again called it quits but got back that very same year. The same year, Roberts broke her long silence on her relationship and broke up with now ex-fiance Peters, during her interview with The Cosmopolitan. Roberts said, "I'm realizing that life is highs and lows. I'm trying to ride them out and live somewhere in the middle.” Roberts further said, "When you're low, you think it's never going to end. When you're high, you're so scared of it ending."
