According to Variety, the ABC network halted production on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday, September 18, 2025. The Disney-owned channel’s decision to cancel the late-night show comes after the FCC reportedly threatened to take action against the host for his recent comments about the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

Meanwhile, Jimmy Kimmel made remarks about Charlie Kirk’s killing on Monday night, September 15. He said:

“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterise this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”

While Barack Obama opposed the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, U.S. President Donald Trump celebrated the move. The 79-year-old politician wrote on Truth Social:

“Great News for America: The ratings challenged Jimmy Kimmel Show is CANCELLED. Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done. Kimmel has ZERO talent, and worse ratings than even Colbert, if that’s possible. That leaves Jimmy and Seth, two total losers, on Fake News NBC. Their ratings are also horrible. Do it NBC!!! President DJT”

“This is precisely the kind of government coercion that the First Amendment was designed to prevent — and media companies need to start standing up rather than capitulating to it.”
