Ahead of the release of her sophomore album, Cardi B has been embroiled in a civil trial accusing her of assaulting a female security guard at a Beverly Hills medical building in 2018.
The trial of the case began on August 25, 2025, with jurors listening to multiple accounts of what reportedly happened. According to Court TV's report dated August 20, 2025, Cardi is accused of intentional infliction of emotional distress, assault and battery, and negligence.
On February 24, 2018, the Up rapper reportedly went to a private appointment with her obstetrician at a doctor's office in Beverly Hills and was 4 months pregnant with her first child, Kulture Kiari Cephus. In 2020, a female security guard at the building, Emani Ellis, filed a lawsuit against the female rapper, claiming she was attacked unprovoked by Cardi at the time.
The female security guard's lawsuit mentioned that Cardi B hit her face, head, and body "violently, unlawfully, intentionally, suddenly and maliciously", inflicting physical and emotional damage. Emani Ellis further alleged that Cardi spat on her and used racial slurs, further claiming that the rapper had people delete the recorded footage of the altercation.
On the other hand, in her response to Ellis' lawsuit, Cardi B claimed that the female security guard was on her personal phone, announced that she saw Cardi, and attempted to record her.

At the time, Cardi was trying to keep her pregnancy under wraps and asked Ellis not to mention her presence at the clinic to anyone. As per Cardi, it was Ellis who aggressively approached her and engaged in a "profanity-laced screaming match.”
Through her lawsuit, the female security guard has sought damages for loss of past and future earnings, medical expenses, a civil penalty of $25,000, and punitive damages.
"It’s something about me that these b*tches can’t stand"- Cardi B opens up on beefing with female rappers ahead of Am I the Drama's release
Cardi B was recently interviewed by Zane Lowe for Apple Music 1, in an interview posted on August 25, 2025. In the interview, Cardi talked about what inspired the title of her sophomore album, sharing her belief of being "born with an anointed light."
The rapper said the spotlight can be good but also disrupt people's peace. Cardi explained that the attention attracts people, which isn’t always positive, and noted that drama has followed her since high school into her rap career.
“Even in the industry, there is a lot of different female rappers, but for some reason, it’s something about me that these b*tches can’t stand. They can’t f*ck with me. Some b*tches, I feel like they’re on this class right now, they’re sophomores, and I’m a senior," she said.

Talking about her feuds with other female rappers, Cardi continued:
And it’s like, you want to f*ck with the senior so bad. You think you’re here with the senior. You’re not even a junior. You need to worry about them other sophomores before you start worrying about the f*cking senior.”
For the unversed, Cardi has engaged in feuds with rappers including JT of City Girls, Bia, Akbar V, and most prominently, Nicki Minaj.
Cardi B's upcoming album Am I the Drama? consists of 23 tracks and will feature her previously released songs, Up and WAP.
