Before being in a relationship with Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie first became a single mom by adopting Maddox Chivan in 2001. Chivan was born on August 5, 2001, in Battambang, Cambodia. She came across Chivan while she was filming Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. She visited an orphanage and felt an instant connection with Maddox after she saw him lying in a box suspended from the ceiling.
During the time she was adopting Maddox Chivan, Angelina Jolie was married to Billy Bob Thornton. However, she still opted out to be a single mom as three months after adopting Chivan, Thornton and Jolie separated. Then in the year 2005, Jolie adopted her second child Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt.
Zahara was born on January 8, 2005, and was adopted by Jolie when she was seven months old. Jolie spotted Zahara at an orphanage when she was traveling with Chivan to Africa. During that timeline, Jolie was in a relationship with Brad Pitt. After returning home with Zahara, Pitt announced his intention to adopt Jolie's children and he did so legally in 2006.
In the same year, Jolie and Pitt announced that they were expecting their first child. They welcomed their daughter, Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt on May 27, at the cottage hospital in Swakopmund, Namibia. Pitt and Jolie traveled to Namibia for the delivery of their first child in an attempt to avoid the unprecedented media frenzy surrounding their relationship.
In 2007, Jolie adopted her fourth child, Pax Thien from an orphanage in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Pax was born on November 29, 2003, and was adopted by Jolie when he was three years old. Jolie had applied to adopt Thien as a single parent because according to the Vietnamese adoption regulations, unmarried couples cannot co-adopt. After returning back to the US, Pitt legally adopted Thein too.
The following year, during the Cannes Film festival, Jolie confirmed that she was expecting twins. Pitt and Jolie welcomed their twins (fifth and sixth) child, Knox Léon and Vivienne Marcheline on July 12, 2008.

According to reports, Jolie and Pitt were an item from 2005. Jolie has confirmed that she fell in love with Pitt during the filming of Mr. & Mrs. Smith but she dismissed allegations of the affair as Pitt at that time was married to Friends star Jennifer Aniston.
The two never commented on the nature of their relationship until January 2006, when Jolie confirmed that she was expecting her first child with Pitt.
After almost a decade of dating, Jolie and Pitt tied the knot in 2014. However, after two years of marriage and almost 12 years of relationship, Jolie and Pitt broke billions of hearts by calling it quits.
