Explaining his take on philanthropy, Elon Musk said in the video:“SpaceX, Tesla, Neuralink, and The Boring Company are philanthropy…Tesla is accelerating sustainable energy… SpaceX is trying to ensure the long-term survival of humanity as a multiplanet species… Neuralink is here to help solve brain injuries and existential risk with AI…The Boring Company is trying to solve traffic...that also is a love of humanity,”Musk’s repost quickly drew widespread attention and reactions online. Many users echoed his perspective, agreeing that his companies were pursuing ambitious goals that could benefit humanity on a global scale. One X user commented under the original post (that Musk had reposted) and stated how the billionaire’s work went far beyond conventional charity“What Elon is doing isn’t just charity. Within minutes of closing, he dismissed the company’s senior leadership team, a move that triggered a legal confrontation lasting nearly three years. The plaintiffs, former Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal, chief legal officer Vijaya Gadde, and general counsel Sean Edgett , filed a lawsuit in 2024. These former Twitter executives claimed that they were wrongfully terminated “without reason” and denied millions in severance pay guaranteed under company policy.Musk’s team justified the firings by accusing the executives of “gross negligence and willful misconduct.”However, the lawsuit argued that Musk’s actions were fueled by frustration over being forced to finalize the deal. It alleged that he deliberately withheld the compensation owed to the departing leaders, disregarding the severance agreements that protected them from termination without cause. In their complaint, the executives accused Elon Musk of transforming Twitter, now rebranded as X, into a company that disregarded contracts and operated as if it were above the law.“Musk doesn’t pay his bills, believes the rules don’t apply to him, and uses his wealth and power to run roughshod over anyone who disagrees with him,” the plaintiffs claimed. They further asserted that, under Twitter’s severance plan, they were entitled to a year’s salary plus stock awards. It was an estimated $57 million for Agrawal, $44 million for Segal, $20 million for Gadde, and $6 million for Edgett. The lawsuit against Musk also portrayed the billionaire as a business leader who routinely avoided financial obligations.“Musk’s refusal to pay … is part of a larger pattern of refusing to pay Twitter’s former employees the benefits and other compensation they are due,” the lawsuit claimed.Additionally, these accusations echoed the grievances of thousands of ex-employees affected by Musk’s sweeping layoffs. Many had similarly accused him of withholding severance and benefitsHowever, in August 2025, Musk and X had settled the separate class-action lawsuit brought by about 6,000 former employees, who had sought $500 million in unpaid compensation. So far, neither the lawyers representing the former Twitter executives nor Elon Musk’s legal team have released further details or made any public statements regarding the settlement.
