No. Sue Bird and Larry Bird are not related to each other. Despite the shared last name and their profession as basketball players, they are both not related.


Sue is one of the WNBA's most polarizing professional basketball players, while Larry is an iconic player who played for the Boston Celtics. Sue Bird is the first WNBA player who has won titles over three different decades and Larry Bird is the one and only person in the history of the NBA to be nicknamed Rookie of the Year, Most Valuable Player, and so on.

Suzanne Brigit Bird, commonly known as Sue Bird, was born in Syosset, Nassau County, New York. Her parents are Herschel and Nancy Bird, and she has a sibling, an elder sister named Jen. Her father's ancestors are Russian Jews, and their original family name was "Boorda". She has also been a citizen of Israel since 2006 because of her Jewish father and paternal grandparents.


However, she represents her home country, the United States, in international competitions. Sue Bird has stood for the Seattle Storm, helping the team win four WNBA titles since she is been short-listed as number one in the 2002 draft.

She played at the University of Connecticut between 1998 and 2002, and she studied communications at the same university. Her UConn teams took home two national championships, and she was the Division I player of the year in 2002. At 41, Bird is the longest-running player in WNBA history to register a playoff double-double, reports ESPN. In June 2022, Bird tweeted that she would be retiring by the end of the season.

Larry Joe Bird is an American former professional basketball player, and coach was born on December 7, 1956, in West Baden Springs, Indiana, to Georgia and Claude Joseph "Joe" Bird, with five siblings. Georgia and Joe got divorced when Larry was in high school, and Joe killed himself about a year later.


Larry used basketball to get away from his family problems. He played at Springs Valley High and averaged 31 points, 21 rebounds, and four assists. As a senior on his way to becoming the best scorer ever in school.

During her 13 seasons in the Celtics, Larry Bird has built on his heritage as one of the greatest players in NBA history. Bird retired in 1992 and relocated to a Celtic office. In 1997, he became the head coach of the Indiana Pacers and was named coach of the year following his inaugural season.


He became the Pacers’ president of basketball operations in 2003 after he resigned from his head coach position in 2000. He resigned from the front office of the Pacers, in June 2012, just a few weeks after winning the Executive Award of the year last season.
