BLACKPINK’s Jennie finally made a debut appearance at the ongoing 2023 Cannes Film Festival on May 22, 2023. The SOLO singer is making her Hollywood and acting debut with HBO's The Idol, which also stars The Weeknd, Lily-Rose Depp, and Troye Sivan, among others. Fans said that the BLACKPINK singer looked stunning as she debuted at Cannes to promote her series.

The singer wore a white princess-style lace dress with black accents and organza sleeves. She wore a matching ribbon hairband and completed her look with nude makeup.

BLACKPINK’s Jennie became the second member of the group after her bandmate Rosé to make an appearance at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. Rosé attended the film festival on behalf of Saint Laurent, the brand she is the global ambassador.

As soon as fans saw pictures and videos from BLACKPINK's Jennie's debut appearance at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, they couldn't help but feel excited. One person even said that Jennie got a scream from a fan like the singer was a "main character."

Based on the outpouring of love on social media, BLACKPINK’s Jennie made a solid impression in her debut appearance at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. Notably, the first two episodes of The Idol were screened in the Out of Competition category and the SOLO singer was there to showcase her support for her crew. At the same time, she also managed to leave an indelible mark as a global star.

She spoke to a couple of journalists and dished on her acting debut with The Idol. BLACKPINK's Jennie revealed that because The Idol showcases the entertainment and glamour industry, she found it relatable. She added that given how she was a fan of Sam Levinson's work and vision, it was an easy yes from her end for the show. She even revealed that Sam Levinson asked her to just be herself and that was her only prep for the drama.

Hashtags and tags like “Jennie at Cannes”, "Jennie X Cannes” and “The Idol” took over worldwide Twitter trends.

Shortly after the main event, she made an equally impactful appearance at The Idol’s after-party where the cast and crew had gathered at Palm Beach, Cannes. Dressed in a monochrome halter-neck top and a long black-velvet skirt with a high slit, the idol looked resplendent. She was seen grooving at the after-party and even posed for pictures with fellow co-star and singer Troye Sivan.

According to reports, in the upcoming series, Jennie will play the role of a b-s*xual person who is friends/acquaintances with Jocelyn, played by Lily-Rose Depp. BLACKPINK’s Jennie was handpicked by her long-time friend The Weeknd for the series. It is also believed that the SOLO singer will be collaborating with The Weeknd on the soundtrack of the show.

She played a brief snippet of the song with The Weeknd at her which quickly gained traction on social media. However, nothing has been officially confirmed by either BLACKPINK’s Jennie or The Weeknd.


The Idol receives mixed reviews at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival

As mentioned earlier, BLACKPINK’s Jennie’s debut Hollywood production The Idol premiered in the Out of Competition category at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. The series reportedly received mixed reactions.

The Idol is jointly created by The Weeknd and Euphoria’s showrunner Sam Levinson. It reportedly explores the dark undertones of the glitz and glamorous life of Hollywood through the eyes of its main protagonist Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp). Joceyln is an upcoming promising pop singer who gets entangled in a whirlwind and dangerous romance with an enigmatic cult leader (The Weeknd).

Based on the initial reviews of the first two episodes screened at Cannes, the series boasts of graphic and sexually aggressive content. However, despite its dark undertones it reportedly received a five-minute standing ovation after its screening at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.

The Idol will be released on HBO on June 4, 2023.
