NCIS season 21: Tentative release date, cast, and everything we know so far

Fans of NCIS can finally rejoice as CBS recently announced that the show has been renewed for a 21st season. In fact, fans of police procedurals have more reasons to celebrate since NCIS: Hawai'i and CSI: Vegas have also been renewed for new seasons. The current, season 20 premiered in September 2022 and will air its finale on Monday, May 22, 2023.

The cast of the show's ongoing season consists of Sean Murray as Timothy McGee, Wilmer Valderrama as Nick Torres, Katrina Law as Jessica Knight, Brian Dietzen as Dr. Jimmy Palmer, Diona Reasonover as Kasie Hines, David McCallum as Dr. Donald "Ducky" Mallard, Rocky Carroll as Leon Vance, and Gary Cole as Alden Parker.

What do we know about the upcoming season of NCIS so far?

While information about the upcoming season of the show is being kept under wraps, we are aware that Mark Harmon was replaced by Gary Cole as the leader of the team. Emily Wickersham was replaced by Katrina Law's Jessica Knight.

A large chunk of the cast of Season 20 will also reprise their roles. Unfortunately, the show has not received a premiere date yet. Amy Reisenbach, President of CBS Entertainment commented on the renewal of NCIS and other shows by saying:

"This season CBS is continuing its winning tradition, delivering an unparalleled combination of top returning series and new hit shows that are entertaining huge audiences on both broadcast and streaming"

She further said:

"It is a testament to the stellar work being done by our best-in-class talent in front of and behind the camera that we have had yet another exceptional season, and I know we will only continue to build on this foundation of outstanding programming as we look ahead toward next fall."

What will happen in the season finale episode of the show?

Season 20 episode 22 of NCIS is titled Black Sky. It is directed by Diana Valentine and written by Brendan Fehily & David J. North.

Its official synopsis reads:

"Agent Torres finds himself in prison as the team tries to stop an impending terror attack on U.S. soil."

From the above clip and synopsis, we learn that Agent Torres astonishingly gets incarcerated and finds himself between violent criminals and gangsters. Meanwhile, the rest of the team tries to prevent a terrorist attack in the USA.

What is NCIS about?


Created by Donald P. Bellisario and Don McGill NCIS is a classic police procedural television series that uses a combination of elements like military and medical drama and sometimes, even comedy.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, the synopsis of the show reads:

"Naval Criminal Investigative Service Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs leads a group of colorful personalities in investigating crimes -- ranging from murder and espionage to terrorism -- that have evidence connected to Navy and Marine Corps personnel."

It further states:

"The team includes MIT graduate Timothy McGee, Ellie Bishop, who specializes in international threat assessment, charismatic and unpredictable Nick Torres, and forensic psychologist Jack Sloane. Dr. Donald "Ducky" Mallard brings his vast experience in forensics into play to help solve cases."
