Glenn Douglas Perry's criminal history explored as two Wisconsin police officers killed during traffic stop

Glenn Douglas Perry, a 50-year-old, fatally shot two police officers during a traffic stop in Cameron, Wisconsin, on April 8, 2023. The victims have been identified as Cameron police officer Hunter Scheel and Chetek police officer Emily Breidenbach. Perry was also caught in the gunfire and died from gunshot wounds later. A state investigators report was revealed on Friday that detailed Perry's criminal records. The report had nearly 1000 pages of documents that detailed Glenn Douglas Perry's history with the police. It also stated that according to Perry's ex-wife, he had schizophrenia.

Barron County Police Sheriff’s Deputy Jonathan Fick said that authorities have had multiple encounters with Perry since 2017. He added that most of these were traffic stops and calls that involved Douglas Perry and his ex-wife.

Glenn Douglas Perry from Wisconsin shot and killed two police officers in April 2023 during a traffic stop in Cameron. The 50-year-old was also killed in a shootout that ensued after he shot at the cops. Memorial funds have been established for the deceased officers’ families.

When state investigators began looking into Perry's history, they discovered that he was schizophrenic. His former wife confirmed this and even told authorities that Glenn slept with a gun under his pillow and always carried guns in his vehicles.

Authorities said that Perry was going through a tough divorce in April when the incident took place. They said that he didn't like "getting pushed around" by the police.

Authorities' report also had a statement from one of Glenn Douglas Perry’s ex-girlfriends, who said that they met on a dating app two years back. The ex-girlfriend told police that Perry worked as a trucker at the time and that his behavior “slowly started to spiral downhill.” The ex-girlfriend also confirmed that Perry once carried nearly five firearms in his truck.

It is worth noting that the police haven't revealed the identities or either the ex-girlfriend or the ex-wife.

Barron County Sheriff’s Deputy Fick addressed Perry’s rough divorce and claimed that the was accused of harassing and stalking his ex-wife. Fick additionally said that Perry would often “act crazy and try to fight law enforcement.”

Officers were sent an email stating instructions to deal with Perry, and that he was in a declining mental status

Deputies revealed that a mail was sent by a captain on the morning of April 8, stating that Perry was wanted on a warrant after he failed to pay child support. The email instructed officers to be armed while dealing with him as he had records of fighting police and always carried guns too. The email also referred to Glenn Douglas Perry’s declining mental status.

One of the first responding officers to the shooting was Deputy Kari Storberg. The deputy heard from Breidenbach informing dispatchers that she had found Perry’s vehicle and was going to stop him along with Scheel. Deputy Storberg also heard the dispatcher relay the cautions regarding dealing with Perry, however, did not hear Breidenbach acknowledge it.

A friend of Perry’s, whose identity hasn’t been revealed, said that Perry was unhappy with the court system about his child support payments. The friend also said that Perry had allegedly mentioned “something in a text about killing someone.” The friend claimed that Perry was upset after his ex-wife told people that he was a bad father and also a domestic abuser.
