The Super Mario Bros. Movie has become close friends with breaking records from the day it was first announced. It was recently revealed that it has climbed to the third spot when it comes to the highest-grossing animated films of all time. It has been two months since the film was released theatrically, but this certainly does not look like an issue.

Compared to its $100 million budget, The Super Mario Bros. Movie has earned an enormous $1.25 billion globally. It had the biggest worldwide opening weekend for an animated film, the highest-grossing film based on a video game, the highest-grossing film of 2023, and most recently overtook Incredibles 2 to become the third-highest-grossing animated film.

Celebrating this achievement, fans on Twitter believe that there is a big chance the movie will climb even higher up the order.

Netizens overjoyed to see The Super Mario Bros. Movie setting a new record

The Super Mario Bros. was released on April 5, 2023, and quickly won fans' hearts with its wholesome story and high-quality animation. The game is one of the most popular games on the planet, and fans have been excited to watch the film since the moment it was announced.

In a recent interview with Kyodo News, the game's creator Shigeru Miyamoto spoke highly about the film. He said:

"The Mario who was puppet-like in the games has become humanized, and with his varied expressions and flashy movements, he’s become a ‘person’ now. It’s got a storyline that’s easy to follow, like video games usually do, We’ve made something that parents and kids alike can see at the theater without getting bored."

He continued,

"At first, I drew him as an 8-bit character. Then, with Super Mario 64, he became 3D and puppet-like. Now with this animation, he’s become much more like a real person and this great character,"
