PowerXL Wafflizer waffle maker recall: Reason, affected models, and all you need to know

Over 450,000 PowerXL Stuffed Wafflizer waffle makers are being recalled from across the country over burn hazard concerns. It is feared that hot pieces of the waffle or stuffing can fall on the hands of users and cause burns. Some users have already experienced burn injuries from the affected products.

Announced on May 18, 2023, the nationwide recall is being issued in conjunction with the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Health Canada, and Empower Brands. As per the recall notice issued by the CPSC, the waffle maker "can expel food products due to pressure buildup during the cooking process, particularly if overfilled."

Such incidents could cause burn injuries, which may or may not require medical attention. As of now, the establishment has received over 44 reports of such incidents. Out of the 44 reported incidents, at least 34 individuals have suffered burn injuries. At least three of the individuals have suffered injuries that required medical attention. It is not certain if these incidents occurred in the United States or Canada.


The recalled PowerXL Stuffed Wafflizer waffle makers were sold at Walmart, Kohl's, Big Lots, and more

The nationwide recall affects nearly 456,000 PowerXL Stuffed Wafflizer waffle makers that were sold all across the United States and Canada. The two models of the waffle makers affected by the recall are - Model ESWM02, 5 inches, and Model ESWM03, 7 inches. Available for purchase between July 2021 and October 2022, the recalled waffle makers are feared to cause their users burns.

Being recalled over burn hazard concerns, the affected products were sold for between $30 and $60. The Made-In-China products could have been bought in one of the 11 available colors, including - black, white, red, cinnamon, gray, lavender, lemon, ocean, slate, seafoam, and sage. The recalled waffle makers have the PowerXL logo located on top of them.

Customers may have bought the recalled products from major retailers across the country, including - Walmart, Kohl's, Big Lots, BJ’s Wholesale Club, Best Buy, The Home Depot, Target, Sam’s Club, and other home goods stores nationwide. The recalled waffle makers were also available for purchase online at www.QVC.com, www.walmart.com, www.kohls.com, and more websites until October 2022.

Consumers who may have bought the recalled Model ESWM02 (five-inch) and Model ESWM03 (seven-inch) Stuffed Wafflizer waffle makers should stop using them immediately. The affected products should be kept away from the reach of children. Individuals can contact Empower Brands to receive a free latch adaptor part and written instructions to complete the repair on their own.
