Former New York Young Republican Club president Gavin Wax has been accused of leaking the Young Republicans' Telegram chats to Politico, which were published in an article on October 14, 2025. Thousands of leaked messages showed the members of Young Republicans allegedly sending racist and homophobic slurs and joking about slavery, r*pe, and gas chambers.The 2,900-page trove of text messages was reportedly exchanged between Young Republican leaders of New York, Vermont, Arizona, and Kansas between January and August 2025. In one of the messages, Peter Giunta, the chairman of the New York State Young Republicans, sent a message to the group that read “everyone that votes no is going to the gas chamber” in June.In a statement to Politico, Guinta alleged that Gavin Wax was responsible for the leak, claiming that the leak was “a highly-coordinated year-long character assassination led by Gavin Wax and the New York City Young Republican Club.” For context, the New York City Republican Club is a city-based group reportedly in conflict with the state-based New York State Young Republicans. According to his website, Wax had previously served as both the "National Committeeman and Corresponding Secretary for the Association of New York State Young Republican Clubs."“These logs were sourced by way of extortion and provided to POLITICO by the very same people conspiring against me. In a notarized affidavit, Bartels (who is a member of the Trump administration) claimed that Wax "demanded" access to the full chat log in a phone call and allegedly "threatened [his] professional standing" when he "attempted to resist that demand."“When I attempted to resist that demand, after providing some of the requested information, Wax threatened my professional standing, and raised the possibility of potential legal action related to an alleged breach of a non-disclosure agreement. In August 2025, Gavin Wax was made Chief of Staff to the Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs.According to his website, Wax was involved in the New York State Young Republican Clubs as both national committeeman and corresponding secretary.
