Adler's television debut came years after his time on Broadway, where he worked as a director, producer, and stage manager. He was involved in the original Broadway production of My Fair Lady. During his theater years, Adler worked with Richard Burton, Julie Andrews, and other Hollywood actors.

Riverside Memorial Chapel, a funeral home, posted an obituary for the late actor. The cause of his death and other details about the circumstances were not shared. Several of Adler’s friends, colleagues, and fans left tributes in his memory.

Bob Claser, a friend of Jerry, called him an "unforgettable character" and praised him as "the sweetest guy" in his tribute. Claser recalled getting pastrami sandwiches with Adler at Langer's Delicatessen-Restaurant in Los Angeles. He wrote:

"Yesterday afternoon, I had a craving for pastrami, and got a sandwich that evening. When I came home with it, I saw the news that Jerry had died. When someone you love, who is very old, dies, it's a little more sad, because it was starting to look like they'd live forever."

A brief look into Jerry Adler's Hesh Rabkin on The Sopranos

Jerry Adler played Herman "Hesh" Rabkin, the Jewish associate and advisor to The Sopranos protagonist, Tony Soprano. Herman was also a close friend of Tony's late father, Johnny.

A loan shark by profession, Hesh is portrayed as calm, composed, and reasonable, in contrast to the quick-tempered gangster family, the DiMeos. However, his intelligence and shrewdness do not nudge his conscience against the criminal activities happening around him.

Despite his long and close affiliation with the DiMeo crime family, Herman is not inducted as a mafia member due to his Jewish heritage. Jerry Adler's Herman "Hesh" Rabkin can often be found playing cards with other members of the crime syndicate at Satriale's Pork Store.

Over the course of the series, Herman gets into some conflicts of interest with Tony Soprano, and his girlfriend Renata's death from a stroke saves him from being killed by the mob boss. Regardless, what happens to him at the end of the show remains untold.
